BFI Film Academy Residential

BFI/Showroom Workstation

Deadline: 21 June 2017 at 12:00

We are recruiting young people, aged 16-19, to take part in the BFI Film Academy Residential: Exhibition and Distribution in Sheffield, which will run from 23rd until 29th July 2017.

We encourage applications from young people from all backgrounds and areas of the UK, and are particularly keen to recruit talent from backgrounds often underrepresented within the film industry.

Being part of the BFI Film Academy Residential is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring young filmmakers to enjoy a diverse programme of films, and experience masterclasses and workshops with industry experts in a range of areas. They will develop skills and knowledge in exhibition, distribution, festivals, programming, film-marketing, commercial and independent cinema, and much more. Students will gain invaluable hands-on experience and have the exciting opportunity to work in groups to design and plan their own ‘film season’ focussing on a genre of their choice.

As well as this, they will be mentored throughout their time at the academy, and will get the chance to meet various industry professionals on a daily basis who can help guide them and give them tips on how to kick-start their career in the film industry.

After the course, they will become part of the BFI Film Academy Alumni, entitling them to exclusive opportunities after the course has ended, such as attending the ‘This Way Up’ Exhibition in Glasgow.

The fee for the residential ranges from £0 to £210, depending on which income bracket you fall into. This includes all accommodation and food. However, a generous bursary scheme ensures that the cost will not prevent anyone from taking part. There are also bursaries available to cover any travel costs (no matter where you are in the UK) or childcare.

Deadline for application is Wednesday 21st June 2017 at midday.
