The Royal Lyceum Theatre Company is Scotland’s largest producing theatre. Led by David Greig, Artistic Director and Alex McGowan, Executive Director, the Company produces an award winning programme of plays from its theatre in Grindlay Street in Edinburgh.
The Company also runs an acclaimed education and outreach programme targeted at learners of all ages and ability. It works regularly in communities in Edinburgh and the Lothians, including an extensive schools programme. The Board want to build on the Company’s success to date to increase its community engagement and to diversify its audiences for its range of work. To contribute to that ambition the Lyceum wishes to appoint someone as a non executive director who has expertise in and experience of working with communities to encourage community engagement and participation in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of Community Planning Partnerships and the third sector’s involvement in service delivery. You will also have an appreciation of the performing arts and culture in Scotland and the transformational power of participation in the arts. You will have effective networks in community engagement and strong communication skills, which you will be prepared to deploy to act as an ambassador for the Company.
Previous experience as a charity trustee or as a member of a board would be helpful but is not essential. You should be prepared to provide constructive challenge and feedback on the Company’s activities and contribute to the Board’s discussions on strategy, governance and risk management.
The Board meets 4-5 times per annum in Edinburgh. In addition to the Board there are sub committees which you may be invited to join. These meet up to 4 times per annum. Board Members are also encouraged to attend performances of the Company’s work.
The position is unremunerated but reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.
